In the wake of Psychotica's self-titled debut, their line-up went through some rather major changes; only three original members still remain, and as a result the follow-up Espina often suggests the work of a completely different band. While the group is still clearly a vehicle for frontman Pat Briggs, here his songs are crafted with much more variety than before: "Breakable" is surprisingly languid and fragile, while the instrumental "Psychopharmacologist" even spotlights a bagpipe. Much less fascinating is a ridiculous disco cover of the perennial "MacArthur Park," a bad idea which goes nowhere fast.
