AllMusic Review by

The second volume in RCA's Legendary Performer series on Elvis Presley followed the pattern of the first one, mixing well-known songs about half and half with previously unreleased songs or alternate takes. Volume 1 had boasted an alternate of the Sun Records track "I Love You Because"; Volume 2 trumped that by digging up a previously unreleased Sun song, "Harbor Lights." That was the one gem here, though. The other unreleased song was a second-rate tune left out of Flaming Star, and the other unreleased performances were mostly unnecessary live versions, though the raucous outtake of "Baby What You Want Me to Do" from the 1968 comeback special was welcome, as were the interview and press conference excerpts. Still, this album was a collector's special, not an essential release (which didn't keep it from going gold).
