Anyone unfamiliar with Lole Y Manuel may be in for a surprise upon first listening to El Origen de Una Leyenda. They may be dressed like the Carpenters on the front cover, but the music found inside is some of the most engaging Spanish folk music made in the 20th Century. Lole's fragile voice wavers through the ten tracks with a passion rarely felt in the genre, while Manuel's dark guitar weaves a gorgeous web of atmosphere around her talents. Some may be turned off by Lole's intense wail, but curious folk music fans should definitely give this a listen, there is some excellent material to be discovered.
