A bit of an anomaly in the DJ's Choice series, the Smooth Christmas volume skews a bit from the top of the charts and heads into smooth jazz territory. This music is no doubt "pop" -- about as pop as jazz gets, in fact -- but it's still jazz and therefore a bit of a departure from past DJ's Choice albums, most of which focus on pop hits of the moment à la the NOW series. This isn't such a bad thing, though. Actually, it's kind of refreshing to see the DJ's Choice series broaden a bit and look beyond boy bands and teen divas. So even if there aren't any surprises or revelations on this compilation of Christmas songs performed in a smooth jazz style, it's still a welcome album. Not necessarily recommended, though, unless you're looking for something convenient. You can do better than this with a little effort.
