This two-disc, 28-song session isn't disco in the traditional commercial sense of polyester suits and platform shoes; rather, it's an examination of the styles and sounds that came after the massive commercial disco surge of the late '70s and its evolution into the '80s. The selections range from new wave chart hits (A Flock of Seagulls' "I Ran," Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Relax") to post-punk (Art of Noise and Fad Gadget), Italo-disco (Fox the Fox, Cyber People), and even a tinge of industrial (courtesy of Anne Clark and Front 242). Individually, all of the tracks are enjoyable and very representative of then-contemporary sounds. However, the track sequencing -- much like its curating -- is all over the place, leaving an erratic and inconsistent feeling when listening from start to finish. It's not the worst compilation on the market, but it's far from the best in the massive ZYX catalog, either.
