This is quite a musical change of direction since their 1994 debut 10" EP. Instead of the minimal format of one girl, one guitar, and occasional piano uses, Nerdy Girl incorporates a full backing band who additionally includes bass and drums this time around. Although Dime Store Hussy lacks the angst and emotion of their prior material, there's more of a fuller, haunting sound found throughout all three tracks. Nerdy Girl for the most part remains at a mid-tempo pace that unfortunately doesn't grab the listener. But as a bonus, a comic book accompanies the song "18 Foot Yacht," featuring what their video would have looked like if they got the funding for it.
