The second volume of e:motion's Deep: Inside, Vol. 2 series is placed in the four hands of Mr. Velcro Fastener, the Finnish duo of Tatu Metsatahti and Tatu Peltonen. During the course of an hour, the producers run through 11 tracks that have inspired and excited them, spanning roughly a decade between the early 1990s and early 2000s. The songs are carefully selected and sequenced -- each track is here in whole, with no mixing involved -- with several of the favorites coming from early U.K. techno stalwarts The Black Dog ("Sharp Shooting On Saturn") and Autechre ("Bike"), along with the new(er) school likes of Monolake's Robert Henke ("Television Tower"), John Tejada ("Genetical Love"), and Carl Finlow's (aka Voice Stealer') ("Evaluation"). Metsatahti and Peltonen keep the whole thing warm and moody despite a number of varied approaches, from Fujiya & Miyagi's relaxed motorik drive to Kenny Larkin's spine-tingling ambient techno. As a nice bonus, the men of Mr. Velcro Fastener provide commentary on each pick in the liner notes.
