Contemporary Christian Classics is a compilation by Mike Cowart for the Gospel Music Association. It brings together some of the top inspirational and adult contemporary hits of the '80s. This is a compilation that really works. It has skilled vocalists, including Sandi Patty ("In the Name of the Lord") and Larnelle Harris ("I Miss My Time With You"); songs that have stood the test of time, including Twila Paris' "Lamb of God" and Ray Boltz's "Feel the Nails"; and some number one hits, including "I.O.U. Me" by BeBe and CeCe Winans (number one adult contemporary) and Steve Green's "God and God Alone (number one inspirational). These songs, for the most part, are truly classics, the only exception being Babbie Mason's "He's All the Hero I Need," an unremarkable song that topped out at number three on the inspirational chart. The rest are still regularly heard and performed in Christian venues. This album is an excellent overview of best of CCM in the '80s.
