This is a bit of a strange compilation. Assembled by the Concord Jazz label for the Japanese market, Concord for Cafe Apres-Midi features many artists from the Concord stable, but the exact theme of this compilation is difficult to discern. At first glance, it would appear to be a collection of Brazilian jazz-flavored tunes, but some are just generally Latin in tone. Others, like "I Believe in Love" and "Parisian Thoroughfare," are pretty straight vocal jazz performances, with no Latin overtones whatsoever. Add two Stevie Wonder tunes and one from Donald Fagen's The Nightfly, and you've got a pretty scattered compilation. None of the material is bad; it just doesn't really make for a coherent listen.
