Renaissance's Concert Classics, Vol. 9 captures a concert Jack Bruce gave on his supporting tour for the 1980 album, I've Always Wanted to Do This. On this tour, he was supported by Clem Clempson, Billy Cobham, and David Sancious, who turned out to be a strong, sympathetic backing band for Bruce, capable of playing both heavy blues rock and jazzy excursions. For listeners not fond of jamming, those excursions could be a little bothersome, but they truly display the depth and reach of Bruce's music. As a matter of fact, this concert often sounds more fully realized than his studio records, particularly as far as the late-'70s material goes. Ultimately, this disc is for hardcore fans (like any live recording is), but they'll be satisfied by what they hear.
