AllMusic Review by

Café Après-midi: Olive is a particularly stellar entry in the long-running series -- any compilation with the taste and imagination to juxtapose Astrud Gilberto, Claudine Longet, Spanky & Our Gang, and even a Michel Legrand composition from the soundtrack to Jacques Demy's miraculous Les Mademoiselles de Rochefort can't help but be brilliant. For this go-round, master compiler Toru Hashimoto plumbs the nooks and crannies of the vast Universal catalog, going fathoms beyond the tried and true to create a seamless listen bringing together rare and underappreciated bossa nova, soft pop, and easy listening numbers spanning the continents and the decades. It's a fantastic introduction to the Café Après-midi series as a whole -- although you'll be hard-pressed to stop at just one.
