This Concord album is a change of pace for acoustic guitarist Charlie Byrd. His trio (which also includes bassist Joe Byrd and drummer Chuck Redd) is joined by the Annapolis Brass Quintet, a nonimprovising chamber group. The arrangements (mostly by Tommy Newsom) nicely blend the two groups together. In addition to six swing-era standards, the musicians perform the three movements of "Byrd & Brass" along with David Amram's "En Memoria de Chano Pozo." This project successfully mixes together swinging jazz, classical music and bossa-nova; worth checking out.
