Other than three early selections ("Balboa Bash," "Machito" and "Harlem Holiday"), this LP concentrates on the more swinging performances from Stan Kenton's orchestras of 1950-52. Highlights include two charts by Shorty Rogers ("Jolly Rogers" and "Round Robin"), "Blues in Riff" and "Love for Sale." Many notable names have solo space including trombonist Kai Winding,, tenor-great Bob Cooper, altoist Art Pepper, Shorty Rogers and Maynard Ferguson on trumpets and altoist Bud Shank. It's a strong introduction to the music of Stan Kenton.
