Burkina Faso is an album of amazing hand drumming based on the traditional rhythms of West Africa. Led by the accomplished djembe player Tahirou Djembé, this seven-piece percussion ensemble performs four originals and three traditionals, "Marakadon," "Fiyen," and "Wasulu." Tahirou Djembé is joined by two other djembes at any given time (played by Madou Zon, Kassoum Sanou, Salif Sanou, and Drahman Ouédraogo) as well as a dunduba (a large, cylindrical drum) played by Béma Traoré or Drissa Doumbia, depending on the track. A few other percussionists add lighter sounds to the drumming with a yabara (gourd rattle), nege (iron bell), and kenkeni (small cylindrical drum). For fans of traditional West African rhythms or hand drumming in general, this release is packed with great listening.
