AllMusic Review by

An enjoyable compilation of diverse R&B recordings released between 1959 and 1975 which earned plenty of airplay on East Los Angeles radio stations. Many were also hits elsewhere, like the Olympics' "Mine Exclusively," a hard, bouncy R&B vocal that proved they could do more than just dance tunes. The little-known ballad "I Fooled You This Time" (by Gene Chandler) and "Forever" (by the Marvelettes) (a popular song at weddings) were R&B chart-dwellers that never crossed over to pop. Smashes like "Land of 1,000 Dances" by Cannibal & the Headhunters, Leon Haywood's "It's Got to Be Mellow," and "Natural High" by Bloodstone are balanced by local favorites such as Brenton Wood's "Catch You on the Rebound," El Chicano's "Tell Her She's Lovely," and Rosie & Ron's "Bring Me Happiness.
