Aimed at the dance market, Both Feet in It, the debut EP from Ubiquity's Bugs, sports five mixes of the group's "Wrapped Up" (only three for vinyl heads): a collaboration with vocalist Terra Deva. Beginning with the club-prepped "Bugs FM Mix" and closing with the more inventive "Original Lo-Fi AM Demo Mix," Both Feet in It also features remix collaborations with Morcheeba and drum'n'bass maestro Jamie Myerson. "Morcheeba's Embrace the Ems Mix" is the highlight, finding the London group roaming deep space, satellite-style, picking up transmissions from Deva's sultry vocal along the way. The Bugs duo of Dave Biegel and Andrew Jervis even turns out two cuts themselves for the CD bonus tracks. "Bugs Re-Dub" drops a fuzzy hip-hop breakbeat, furnished with fragmented horns and distorted bass, the results of which highlight the vocalist in fine style, while "Original Lo-Fi AM Demo" keeps the vocal intact, only to shift the underlying structure it rests on. The remaining material gets eclipsed along the way, however, which is unfortunate, as Biegel and Jervis are capable of crafting some interesting music on their own. As a result, "Filed Under X," a wonderful, plodding suspense theme, is likely to get lost among the remixes. As a sampling of what was to come, however, Both Feet in It serves its purpose. All the material here would appear, albeit mostly in alternate form, on the group's full-length debut set, Infinite Syndrome.
