AllMusic Review by

Two nights of 1971 concerts in Clearwater, Florida were recorded for posterity, capturing Herman and his Thundering Herd, a mixture of a few original players and mostly young Turks blowing their hearts out. The set list is a mixed bag of old standbys ("Blue Flame," the title track, "Bijou") and then new material like Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4" and Alan Broadbent's arrangement of "Sidewalk Stanley." The band is clearly enjoying their surroundings and Herman, as always, makes a wonderful emcee and a take-charge bandleader, tripling on clarinet, alto and soprano saxophones.
