Historically, this is where the blues first started rearing its head, reaching a larger -- and whiter -- audience and eventually going more mainstream than the music ever had. Artists as diverse as B.B. King, Ann Peebles, Bobby Rush, the Allman Brothers Band, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Koko Taylor, Chick Willis, and Hound Dog Taylor all have a voice in this excellent collection, every one of them sign pointers for the change that took place in the following decade. Excellent liner notes from Bill Dahl make this a modern-day compilation worth picking up.
