It's hard to determine the worth of Le Roi du Blues' Little Walter rarity compilations these days. Not only has much of the material been reissued on CD; it's sometimes hard to determine what's been reissued elsewhere and what hasn't, given the minimal differences between some of these alternate takes. It's reasonably certain that Blue Midnight, the third and final volume of the series, had the rarest material of the lot, and the most songs that remained unused on Chess's CD compilations. The material is good, but not as impressive as the previous two Le Roi du Blues volumes (Blue and Lonesome and Southern Feeling), drawing more from his '60s recordings than the other installments.
