Like any other edition of Rhino's budget-line Billboard series, Billboard: Top Soft Rock Hits 1973 is a skimpy but entertaining snapshot of a particular year -- in this case, all the mellow hits from 1973. The cuts on the collection range from pop (Helen Reddy, Perry Como) and soft rock (Seals & Croft's "We May Never Pass This Way Again," Carly Simon's "You're So Vain") to singer-songwriters (Jim Croce's "Time In A Bottle") and countrypolitain (Charlie Rich's "The Most Beautiful Girl"), with a novelty or two thrown in for good measure ("Dueling Banjos"). It may not be a comprehensive collection, but Billboard: Top Soft Rock Hits 1973 certainly captures the feeling of the year quite well.
