Here's what should be listed under "various artists," as it's a real hodgepodge of great stuff. What we have are seven of Big Joe's eight Trumpet recordings, along with four tracks by Luther Huff, a pair from Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup that were originally issued under the pseudonym Elmer James, and the stray recording of Bobo Thomas' "Catfish Blues," which was originally issued as the B-side to Elmore James' "Dust My Broom." The Crudup sides (featuring Sonny Boy Williamson on harp) and Huff tracks have a particular bite to them that's very exciting. A great, little chunk of raw Mississippi blues that belongs in everybody's blues collection.
