For this record, Derrick May took an otherwise excellent song from his It Is What It Is record, "Beyond the Dance," and gave it an epic remix, completely restructured the song, first by greatly expanding its scope to epic status, then rearranging the rhythms. For the first several minutes of "Beyond the Dance (Cult Mix)," May has submersed the rearranged high-hat percussive rhythms from the original in layers of his sensual synthesizer. One of the synthesizer layers lingers in the background, casting a shadow of melodic beauty; the other layer is the chorus of string stabs that were the highlight in "Beyond the Dance"'s original mix. "Beyond the Dance (Bizzaro Mix)" from the B-side is much shorter and sounds remarkably like the first version, while "Sinister (Trolley Mix)" functions well as yet another wonderful extension of the Rhythim Is Rhythim sound.
