In 1998, BMG Philippines released Best of Filipino Pop '98, Vol. 1, a compilation album dominated by radio hits of its artists from 1997 and 1998. The album includes songs by rock and pop bands and artists, as well as easy listening, middle-of-the-road love songs.
Many of the record company's top and best-selling artists are on this album, including pop/rock bands Rivermaya and the Eraserheads, vocal group the Company, and easy listening balladeers Ariel Rivera and Nelson Del Castillo. The album presents a well-rounded variety of music, and the songs, are enjoyable. Even the easy listening music is passable.
"Getting to Know Each Other" is performed by one of BMG Philippines' best-selling artists, Ariel Rivera. The melody is light and easy and goes down smooth. One of the album's most adventurous songs is "Girl Be Mine" performed by Francis M. The song opens on the strumming of acoustic guitar as Francis M sings a striking melody; the drums kick in and his voice gets more energized. The distinctive backing vocals add also much to the song's ambience. The Freesouls' "Shindig" intentionally harkens back to the sound of the British Invasion circa 1964 and captures the innocence of that era. "Georgia" by 3 Days is an interesting pop song, while girl group the Vibe perform an eloquent rhythm & blues-tinged number. Not a bad compilation album at all.
