AllMusic Review by

After taking stabs at rather banal bar-rock (Wheel) and equally banal grunge conventions (Bender), Boston's Crazy Alice switched from the Sonic Bubblegum label to Catapult and released Best Damn Chicken in the Fair, which shifts the focus to heavy rock-oriented punk and "alternative." While the record's sound is no more original or appealing than that of prior albums, it is probably the most competent of their efforts; when the band is aping punk and alternative clich├ęs, however, (or faking a Smashing Pumpkins riff on "Shows up Empty"), it's clear that "most competent" doesn't really mean a whole lot.
