Two sessions were combined and reissued on this 1987 DRG/Swing LP: a United Artists album led by tenor saxophonist Benny Golson and three titles from a date featuring Golson but actually headed by trumpeter Roger Guerin. The former set has Golson teaming up with trumpeter Lee Morgan, pianist Ray Bryant, bassist Percy Heath and drummer Philly Joe Jones on six then-recent jazz tunes, including three songs by Golson (highlighted by "Stablemates") and John Lewis' "Afternoon In Paris." The other date has Golson and Timmons joining Guerin, bassist Pierre Michleot and drummer Christian Garros for "Blues March," "I Remember Clifford" and Timmons' "Moanin'." Although both sessions are rather obscure, the music is excellent hard bop for the period, and the songs are some of the best from the era.
