It's no secret that Michael Schenker is one of the more talented guitarists of the hard rock/heavy metal genre. But it's a known fact among longtime fans that Schenker's playing on-stage always surpasses his studio recordings. Just listen to UFO's classic Strangers in the Night or Schenker's own One Night at Budokan for the proof. So it makes sense that the folks at Zoom Club would assemble a Schenker box set comprised strictly of live recordings, 2003's four-disc Back to Attack: Live Included are three separate shows -- Japan, 18 January 1984 (discs one and two), Portland, Oregon, 14 December 1983 (disc three), and Holland's Pink Pop Festival, 08 June 1981 (disc four), and it appears as though the recordings are from the soundboard (be forewarned -- these aren't pro recordings, especially the last disc). But despite this, Schenker's six-string skills are exceptional throughout, and you get great renditions of both UFO and Michael Schenker Group classics -- "Rock Bottom," "Doctor Doctor," "Captain Nemo," "Into the Arena," "Natural Thing" and more. Sure it may be overkill for the casual admirer, but for the hardcore Schenker fan, there's plenty to enjoy.
