AllMusic Review by

Baby, Test the Sky captures Stratotanker's rocking, low-fi sound in a sort of midground -- it isn't as aggressively gritty or varied as Gambit, but it doesn't have the polished and fully-realized sound of The Miracle of Flight either. Instead, it offers a collection of fuzzy, fractured tracks that range from rootsy noisefests ("Let it Slide") to tinny organ grooves ("Pure Pleasure"), and then back again. Loose performance and recording give the record an indie appeal, and Stratotanker borrows intelligently from various styles to create the idiosyncratic compositions, but The Miracle of Flight is surely their finest (and, surprisingly enough, their most accessible) release.
