Put a fiddle above a rock & roll-styled backbeat in 2014 and the Mumford & Sons comparisons are bound to come pouring in, and yet it certainly applies to von Grey's EP Awakening. Most Mumford of the bunch here has to be "Come On," a motivational grower that is rustic and pop at once, while everything else is equally Bonaroo-worthy music, steeped in tradition and slathered in slick at the same time. The teen/tween group of sisters also offers amazingly clean and tight harmonies, so complain about the release's short running time because Awakening is otherwise comfortable, warm, and welcome.
