Pete Fountain's steady series of recordings for Coral were among the most rewarding of his career. This particular set found him playing live at Dan's Bateau Lounge, his home base in New Orleans prior to opening his own club. The repertoire for the quartet (which also includes pianist Merle Koch, bassist Don Bagley and drummer Jack Sperling) consists of a variety of standards along with a few folk songs (including "Londonderry Air" and "Deep River") and a rare Fountain original "Creole Gumbo." This is excellent music from one of Dixieland's most enduring stars.
