The Cornell Hurd Band just may be one of the tightest outfits in Texas, and to prove it they recorded this concert set at down-homey Austin eatery Texicalli Grille. The one-night stand features a host of Cornell Hurd Band classics that alternately swing, jump, and throw down the honky tonk. Hurd's skewed but tight country & western is charged through with his humor (which becomes even more evident in the live setting). Live, the band acts as a revue, and a host of guests pop in, including Johnny Bush, who is known for some charting hits in the late '60s and early '70s and for penning "Whiskey River" for Willie Nelson. There are more than a few whimsical moments here, no more evident than in the group's use of the "Theme From the Flintstones" as a musical interlude.
