AllMusic Review by

Angel Eyes has ten songs Yusef Lateef recorded on one day in 1959. Lateef (on tenor, flute, and oboe) is teamed up with the euphonium of Bernard McKinney, pianist Terry Pollard, bassist William Austin, and drummer Frank Gant, for a typically stimulating and diverse set of music which ranges from the title cut, "Stella by Starlight" and "Poor Butterfly" to "Oboe Blues" and "Half Breed." The unusual blend of Lateef's instruments with McKinney's low brass works quite well and holds one's interest throughout.
