AllMusic Review by

With their four-volume series All-Time Favorite Songs of the Beatles, the Hill-Wiltschinsky Guitar Duo has essentially created the same album four times. Each of these records is a light yet lush easy listening album, with gentle guitars and synthesized instrumental backdrops. Also, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to why these particular ten songs are featured. Each disc contains songs from both the beginning and end of their career, both rockers and ballads, but they all wind up sounding like background music. Not that there's anything wrong with that -- if you're looking for arrangements of Beatles tunes that don't draw attention to themselves, this is ideal -- but for many listeners, it may be hard to draw distinguish not only between albums, but between songs. Still, any of the records work nicely as aural wallpaper. All-Time Favorite Songs of the Beatles, Vol. 1 features such Lennon-McCartney favorites as "Can't Buy Me Love," "The Fool on the Hill, ' "When I'm 64," "I Saw Her Standing There," "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," "Yesterday," "In My Life" and "Penny Lane."
