As the notes on the back of the CD cheerfully admit, none of the members of the Gloucester Hornpipe & Clog Society are actually from Gloucester, and there is only one actual hornpipe on this CD. Truth in advertising considerations aside, there are plenty of reasons to get this CD. The band's lively renditions of American Colonial, Celtic, and seafaring tunes are fun, and the addition of a Scott Joplin tune and an original setting of a Longfellow poem add a bit of extra color. Gloucestermen they aren't, nor even all New Englanders, but they play the roots music of Massachusetts with uncommon dexterity and charm.
