AllMusic Review by

This compilation of the best of early-21st century Norteno music includes all the greats that you'd expect, plus a few wild cards thrown in for good measure. Notable among the latter, please welcome BandaHood, whose "El Paso Del Muchacho Alegre" with its street-hoodlum menace and chugging urban cumbia beat is a highlight, and Patrulla 81, whose distinctive tumbling percussion makes the rapid two-step "Cuando Mas Tranquilla Te Halles" another track worthy of attention.

The established artists also have excellent tunes here--Grupo Montez De Durango's "Lagrimas De Cristal" is an old favorite, while Kinto Sol and K-Paz De La Sierra's take on the beloved Cajun/country chestnut "Jambalaya" pays tribute to the song by updating it and presenting it to a whole new audience. Los 6 De Durango's "Busco Un Nuevo Carinito" is classic Norteno, but it's El Gatillero Y La Reina who provide the strongest dose of tradition on AGARRON DURANGUENSE with their accordion-heavy ranchera piece "Calzo Grande."
