AllMusic Review by

Adalberto Santiago goes back to his Cuban musical roots with the help of some of the musicians from La Sonora Matancera and creates one of his most accomplished albums. With his customary dazzle, the singer belts one great tune after the other. The infectious "Mi Guajiro/Se Va Mi Querer," the perennial favorite "Sarandonga," and fire and brimstone with his superior "Fuego y Candela." Arranger Javier Vazquez brings his utmost professionalism to the production. The early '80s gave the Fania label the chance to explore a few of the Cuban genres that influenced salsa. In spite of waning interest in the expression, there is always room for the tipico side of the house, as Santiago demonstrates with great enthusiasm.
