Eight of the 11 selections on this fine LP feature clarinetist Albert Nicholas (who had recorded with Jelly Roll Morton on a couple of occasions) heading a quartet including pianist Bobby Greene, bassist Jens Solund and drummer Knud Ryskov Madsen. Sticking mostly to Jelly Roll tunes, plus three that Morton had recorded ("Someday Sweetheart," "Mamie's Blues" and "Tiger Rag") but not actually composed, Nicholas shows that the passing of time (he was 70) and his many years in Europe had not dulled his enthusiasm and abilities. In addition, Greene performs a solo piano version of "King Porter Stomp"; pianist Art Hodes is featured on "Grandpa's Spells" from a couple months later; and Papa Bue's Viking Jazz Band romps through "Doctor Jazz." Recommended to vintage jazz collectors.
