Jeff Tareila's second album is a step forward. Produced by Fergus Jemison Marsh of Bruce Cockburn's band, this collection shows a harder edged and more tightly written side of Tareila's performing. He's got a gravelly expressive voice that he uses to push around the ideas in his story songs. Even when he is writing story songs, he always seems to get himself near the interior life of his characters. Some of the highlights are "Just a Thin Vein," "Her Eyes," and "Rose Tattoo."
