AllMusic Review by

A compilation of soundtrack work for a quartet of performances by Japanese comedy group City Boys, this CD features Yasuharu Konishi (from Pizzicato Five) on most tracks, with several from Konishi protégé Fantastic Plastic Machine. Konishi extends themes and ideas found in his work with P5: "Tema Principale" is reminiscent of the faux soundtracks on By Her Majesty's Request, and the melody runs throughout the album. Elsewhere, he drop licks from Francis Lai, Jacques Tati soundtracks, "Tequila," and Sinatra's "My Way." A great use is also made of audio samples from American media, sounding like leftover tapes from This Year's Girl. Of the Fantastic Plastic Machine tracks, the majority are slightly different mixes of tracks that would pop up on his debut and on P5's Romantique 96. The CD doesn't say much about Konishi's work except that he's good at pastiche, but Trattoria saved these tracks from obscurity (the original releases are out of print).
