The combination of pianist Sir Roland Hanna, guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, and bassist Jon Burr (who is listed first because his name is first alphabetically) is a definite winner. Hanna sounds inspired by Pizzarelli's presence, while the guitarist is pushed by the pianist into playing more forcefully than normal. With Burr contributing a solid drive and occasional short solos, this is a highly enjoyable bop-oriented set. Among the tunes that the trio uplifts are "All of Me," "Donna Lee," Oscar Pettiford's "Tricotism," and "Cherokee." In addition, there are three originals, of which Burr's "Nobody Said It Was Easy" is most memorable. Overall, this fine outing for the small Cymekob label is a delight for straight-ahead jazz collectors.
