The Folkswingers are actually Glen Campbell and the Dillards. 12 String Guitar!, an all-instrumental album that highlights Campbell's guitar playing, was made around the time that he cut his album Big Bluegrass Special with the Green River Boys for Capitol. Many of the performances on 12 String Guitar!, particularly those that feature Doug Dillard's banjo, are very close in style to bluegrass, while others, like "Walk Right In" and "Cottonfields," are closer to folk. The tunes, performed entirely on acoustic instruments, are well-known folk, country, and traditional melodies excepting "Bull Durham," which is credited to Campbell. Encompassing the old and the new, from the Carter Family to Bob Dylan, 12 String Guitar! has something for country, folk, and bluegrass fans as well as guitar mavens.
