This is the debut album by this hilarious quintet from Manitowoc, WI, fronted by guitarist Jim Krueger. A novelty band resembling Michigan's Da Yoopers, the Happy Schnapps Combo have perhaps a bit more musical talent than the more popular Upper Peninsular group due to Krueger's skilled riffs and catchy melodies. Musically, they combine country and polka with kitchy arrangements that sometimes recall the music tracks for television's Green Acres and the Benny Hill Show. With lyrics centering around over-drinking, over-eating, possessive girlfriends, and tiresome wives, this combo's shtick is anything but politically correct. The most popular song from this album was "The Bears Still Suck Polka" which was their view on the longtime National Football League rivalry between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears. That song even generated radio airplay in the Windy City. This album would begin a string of similar offerings by this band spanning the remainder of the '90s.
