Rush Hour
AllMusic Staff Pick - April 30, 2025
October 17, 2000
Recorded in 1995 and issued by Alternative Tentacles in 2000, Rush Hour is a standout release of the storied Chicago street artist's discography. Yes, all of his songs are minor variations on the same basic structure, but this one is largely devoid of the enthusiastic concert descriptions and tributes to friends and celebrities that make up most of his albums, instead focusing on more subdued material addressing his mental illnesses. Several songs explore hellish imagery and his attempts to find salvation, and tracks like "Chronic Schizophrenia" and a series of expletive-heavy tracks near the end of the album are among his most intense, cathartic work.
