This 1967 date with jazz drummer extraordinaire Elvin Jones acting as the leader is a loose, laid-back, and profoundly cool listen. The result of a two piecemeal sessions where some days all the players showed up and some days they didn't, Heavy Sounds isn't too heavy at all, but rather a relaxed swing through some standards, a few tunes by saxophonist Frank Foster, and even one song where Jones comes out from behind the drum kit to play a little rudimentary blues guitar.
