Commodores

Zoom

Song Review by

The second tune published and recorded by Motown Records with this title; the Temptations' "Zoom" written by Norman Whitfield preceded the Commodores' totally different song. This Lionel Richie/Ronald LaPread composition is a combination message and fantasy flight song. The underlying message is a wish for world happiness and the hope for a better place to magically fly away to -- Zoom! It has a nice wavy cadence, uplifting harmonies, and a pacifying lead by Richie. Off the album Commodores, Motown was concentrating on Richie's successful solo compositions and never gave this favorite a shot at the charts.
