I Need to Be in Love

Song Review by

Richard Carpenter has said that "I Need to Be in Love" was his sister Karen Carpenter's favorite. Co-written by Richard, his frequent collaborator John Bettis, and Albert Hammond, "I Need to Be in Love" was the kind of song that seemed ideally suited for Karen's rich, heart-tugging vocals, which makes its perplexing that the single wasn't a bigger pop hit. Produced by Richard Carpenter, "I Need to Be in Love" went to number 25 pop and number one adult contemporary in the summer of 1976.
