Song Review by

The O'Jays' driving "I Love Music" got dancers up on the disco floor -- for a long time! It was the longest track the group had recorded up to that point. Written and produced by Philadelphia International Records founders Gamble and Huff, "I Love Music" also benefited from the mixing skills of their frequent collaborator, Sigma Sound engineer Joe Tarsia. Tarsia delivers an aural soundscape that shares itself with the trio's energetic vocals and the jamming grooves of MFSB. Listen to the guitar work of Bobby Eli and string arranger Norman Harris' super guitar solo. One of the O'Jays' most enduring tracks, "I Love Music" went to number one R&B and number five pop in late 1975. It was listed on their platinum number one R&B/number seven pop album Family Reunion, whose other highlights were the endearing radio-aired title track and the sweet slow jams "Stairway to Heaven" (not to be confused with the same-titled song by Led Zeppelin) and "You and Me." In an uncommon move for a greatest-hits set, the long album version of "I Love Music" was included on the trio's gold 1977 PIR set Collecter's Items.
