One of Malcolm McLaren’s many innovative experiments in modern music, this project saw ‘Talcy’ pull together a team of rappers, singers and DJs from New York and Los Angeles. In their early days the group had hosted their own show on New Jersey station WHBI, alongside the legendary Mr Magic, before the latter shifted to WBLS. The idea of their partnership with McLaren was to make a modern rap record themed on Shakespearean and Opera models, as demonstrated by the promotional single, ‘Opera House’. Main vocalist Mona Lisa Young was saddled, however, by some uninspiring material, co-written between McLaren and MC Hamlet (b. Jason Van Sugars). The album included a return to the happier times of ‘Buffalo Girls’. Indeed, McLaren had formerly employed the Supreme Team on his Duck Rock album, where they rapped over T-Ski Valley’s ‘Catch The Beat’.
