Self-described as ‘Bladerunner sci-fi rock ‘n’ roll mixed with acidic cinematic visions’, Venus Fly Trap are underachieving veterans of the underground, experimental rock scene. Based in Northampton, England, throughout a career stretching back to the late 80s, Venus Fly Trap’s records have been characterized by the vocals of Alex Novak - an aspect of their sound that has regularly been compared to that of Jim Morrison of the Doors. A closer musical comparison might be Christian Death. The other members of the band in the mid-90s were Gary Lennon (guitar), Andy Denton (drums) and Neil Ridley (bass), though previous line-ups had been less settled. Novak has also collaborated widely, including the Nova State Conspiracy project with Simon Coleby, which, in 1994, released on Dion Fortune Records the album Zeitgeist. Novak also runs his own music fanzine, Bizarre, which documents his taste for outlandish and experimental music.
