Having gotten together in the summer of 2000 with what the band calls "a collaboration between two Doners and two Matts," the Benny took shape between brothers Tobin (bass) and Brandon Doner (percussion), Matthew Durno (vocals/guitar), and Matthew Bannister(guitar/keys). Having grown up on the likes of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd with an additional dose of Radiohead and Wilco, the Benny's sound took shape with a hybrid of sonic guitars, vocal harmonies, and a lyrical disarray of bad days. After a year of playing throughout their native of Toronto, the band's first self-released full-length entitled Clutter came out in 2001.
