The Rhythm Saints collective are the creation of Los Angeles, California, USA house producer/remixer Stephen Nixon. Though he is responsible for songwriting, the outfit also includes several singers, such as Shade, Mike Heath and J. Philip Gillespie. The Rhythm Saints’ debut album, Deep Sustained Booming Sounds, was released in 1994, and was followed a year later by the critically acclaimed Golden. Both explored Chicago and New York house traditions in an energetic style, with lyrics written with much greater dexterity than is the norm for dance music records. Nixon and the Rhythm Saints’ ability to sustain themselves over a full album also distinguished them from their more singles-orientated peers.
